After a phenomenal read — Radical Candor by Kim Scott — the women leaders in the “Leader In You” Lean In Circle have now picked up Stop Overthinking by Nick Trenton.
With April being Stress Awareness Month, this felt like the perfect book to explore. It’s a simple and practical read, packed with tips that are easy to apply. Halfway through the book, I’ve already found one tool that truly stood out — The 4 A’s of Stress Management:
** Avoid – Steer clear of unnecessary stressors
** Alter – Change situations to reduce their impact
** Adapt – Adjust your expectations and mindset
** Accept – Embrace what you can’t control
What made this even more powerful is how easily I could apply it in my own life.
I’ve often felt stressed about not finding enough time to read, something I deeply enjoy but frequently push aside. Inspired by the book, here’s how I’m practicing the 4 A’s:
** Avoid: I’ve started reducing my screen time in the evenings—less Netflix, more reading.
** Alter: I joined a reading circle with other women leaders. Now we’re reading together, discussing insights, and holding each other accountable.
** Adapt: Since I can’t always carry a book, I’ve placed copies in strategic spots—one at my work desk, one by my bed, and another as an audiobook for my walks or travel.
** Accept: I’ve let go of the guilt of not being able to read fiction or fantasy right now. My plate is full, and that’s okay.
This simple framework has helped me shift from overwhelm to ease. It’s a gentle reminder that stress doesn’t always require big solutions—just small, conscious choices.
Looking forward to finishing the book and continuing this journey of decluttering the mind, managing stress, and focusing on what truly matters.
Would love to hear from others: What’s your go-to technique to stop overthinking?
